Batik occupied an important place in the mention of superbly executed crafts which have evolved tremendously in recent years. Almost all traditional crafts abound in portrayal of gods and goddesses but lately there is a trend to include contemporary themes.
A pair of women gossiping is a common sight in villages, towns and cities – in fact everywhere in the world. Dressed in village finery, they sit and talk about anything and everything around them. The theme represents a genre scene, quite common. The technique of waxing and dying in batik is well known too. What is peculiar, nay, outstanding in this work is a balanced blend of natural and abstraction. Basic colours like red, green and yellow are prominently used.
